Description

Bakelite is a very robust type of plastic that was developed at the beginning of the 20th century. The new material was also used in jewellery design, especially in the Art Déco of the 1920s, because of its modernity and versatility. Today, pieces of jewellery with Bakelite are sought-after collectors' items.

Fine Art Deco silver ring (stamped 800) with bakelite from the 1920s.
A coral red bouton of bakelite sits centrally on the characteristically technical Art Deco setting. The narrow ring head wraps broadly over the finger and flows directly into the ring shoulders, which rest on a fine silver ring. The sides of the ring are each decorated with a band of two marcasites and a silver half ball.
