Very finely cut shell cameo from the 1920s.
Pictured is a bust of a woman in half-profile with vine decoration, presumably a Bacchante or Bona Dea, the Roman goddess of fertility, healing and women. The reddish-brown and cream-colored shell is set in a narrow ring of gold-plated silver (stamped 800), set with 15 marcasites in a simple Art Deco style.
The piece of jewelry can be worn as a brooch with a safety ball clasp or as a pendant on a tulip-shaped suspension.
