Description

Original silver ring (unstamped, tested) with glass mosaic from around 1880.
A fine glass mosaic is set into the round ring head. It shows the ruins of an ancient temple. The picture is surrounded by a black glass rim, which sits in a wide silver setting with a corded rim. The double ring band splits at the ring shoulders, which are decorated with hatching.

Such charming mosaics were made in the ancient tradition with tiny particles of glass in Italian workshops. They were popular souvenirs of travellers to Italy until the end of the 19th century.
